Marion Bay & Beaches
Penguin Point
Marion Bay has one of the most beautiful beaches – Penguin Point is accessed via a mostly off-road walkway directly in front of the shack, where the shallow water makes a perfect place for stand up paddle boarding, kayaking and swimming for children. The natural beauty of the calcrete cave formations on the right hand side are a lovely place to visit/paddle up to.
Low tidal pools and sand bars it is a great place to spend a few hours splashing about and beach combing.
Also a great walking beach with firm flat sand offering a relaxing round trip to the Marion Bay Jetty.
Walk as the crow flies from Alloca Beach shack to picnic and enjoy this sensational beach, it truly is Marion Bay’s front yard.
Willyama Beach
An open Ocean Beach, Willyama Beach faces South and Opposes Kangaroo Island that can easily viewed from the tall vegetated sand dune lookout.
The mast of the sunken vessel “The Willyamma” still rises out of the water from when it sank in the 1920’s while carrying a cargo of coal destined for Port Pirie.
This ever changing beach is great for early morning walks and the elevated sand dune lookout gives a great vantage point to look out to Kangaroo Island and Rhino Head, the Lake and Marion Bay itself. On a calm clear night you can trek out from Alloca’s homely living room to stargaze at shooting stars and satellites passing over head while hollow waves curl and break on the shore.
Marion Bay Jetty and Boat Ramp
A popular place for squidding and fishing. Take a walk from Alloca shack to Penguin point to the Jetty or take a short cut through the caravan park. Fishing bait is available from the general store.
Also on the way to the jetty on Slow Street is a tennis court and basketball court.
Marion Bay Tavern
A great range of food and drink choices on their menu including wood fired pizza, fresh seafood, pub classics and vegetarian and vegan options. Takeaway alcohol can be purchased from the bar. The general store sits alongside the Tavern that offers a large range of ice-creams, take away and some pantry items.
